ROSEMARY FORD Running for Director of the NCIHC Board of Directors
It is with enthusiasm that I write this statement of interest for the elected director position on the NCIHC board. I earned my B.S. in ASL interpreting, graduating in 2010 and my MBA in Healthcare Administration from New England College in 2019. Earning my MBA in Healthcare Management has provided me with the skills to better support the community where I live and work, as I strive to provide Culturally and Linguistic Appropriate Services (CLAS)/accessibility and effective communication access to individuals with disabilities and Limited English Proficiency. As the System Director of Interpreter Services, I oversee 3 acute and 13 post-acute locations, assuring that best practice and federal and state requirements are followed. With over 12 years of healthcare management experience, I believe I have grounding in program development, needs assessment of the community and implementation of best practices. I have achieve receiving my national certification from RID in oral transliteration and my advanced state certificate and licensure in ASL interpretation. After serving one year as the interim and three years as the elected NCIHC secretary, I would like to continue to serve NCIHC, an organization that I have been a member of since 2007. I believe it imperative to network and collaborate with other language access professionals, community members and healthcare professionals who represent diverse backgrounds and experiences so that one can stay informed of barriers and opportunities surrounding communication access. Through continuous listening and learning with key stakeholders; a collaborative approach to implementing CLAS standards allows for increased patient safety, quality of care and health equity. I have always prided myself on my organizational skills, time management, creativity and ability to think outside of the box. Now couldn’t be a better time for me to take the skills that I possess and apply them to a board of professionals who share similar interests and values. It is no secret that I am passionate about the work that I do; I would describe myself as self-motivated, an ally to historically underserved populations and a team player. When I am not at work or spending time with my family, I can be found in the gym or gardening. Part of being an interpreter for the Deaf entails giving back to the community. Over the years I have volunteered countless hours by serving as a board member and president to the NH Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters. I have also chaired and joined various committees for this organization and volunteer on NCIHC’s, outreach and membership committee and chair NCIHC’s social media workgroup. Thank you for considering my nomination; I feel confident that my background, strengths and goals make me a good candidate for acceptance and fit the requirements for the secretary position on the NCIHC board. Respectfully, Rosemary Ford, MBA, OTC, NHICS-A/Licensed.
